Some biographical notes[]

  • William Louis Francis Wastell (born 1864 in Hackney, died 1941 in Woodford aged 77). Moved to Woodford in 1880s. Was a school teacher working for the London County Council by 1911. Author of some books on photography and editor of the Amateur Photographer magazine.
  • Ernest Procter Alger (born 1875 in Clapton, Hackney, died 31 March 1963 in Kent aged 88) In 1911 was a commercial traveller for a tea company. Moved to Wanstead between 1901 and 1911.
  • Richard Butler Fidler (born 1869 in Wanstead, died 25 December 1957 in a Hammersmith hospital) director of a tea company. Not to be confused with his father who had the same name (c.1810-1870)
  • Frank Bosville Baverstock (born 11 August 1907 in Godalming, died 1986 in Brentwood) Living in South Woodford by 1964.
  • Guy Charles E Dixon (born 7 June 1913, died 2005) Married twice: to Betty M Clark in 1939 and to Doris Irene Rumsey in 1995 (at age 82). Lived at Willow Cottage, St Mary's Avenue, Wanstead, in 1963.
