Mark Auliff (1887-1957)[1] was a Labour Party member of the London County Council representing Stoke Newington 1937-49, Stoke Newington and Hackney North 1949-52.

He was the Labour Party's candidate at Ealing at the 1935 general election, when he was described as a senior partner in the stationery firm of Auliff, Harris and Company.[2] He was not elected.

He was appointed a member of Basildon Development Corporation, formed in 1949 to develop a new town in Essex to deal with "London Overspill".[3][4]

  • Emigrated to Providence, Rhode Island, U.S.A. about 1890 and returned to London in about 1895.
  • Spent many years in Germany as a commercial traveller travelling extensively and speaking fluent German
  • First world war enlistment, 31 August 1914, as a 'Driver'. Transferred 27 November 1914 to 'Intelligence' and discharged from the army as his 'services were deemed to be more valuable to the country in civil rather than military employment’.
  • The Perrin Life Belt was improved by Auliff and marketed as the Perrin Auliff Life Jacket which became the standard issue for many years to the RNAS and RAF. Auliff's improvement meant that an unconscious wearer would float face up in the water.
