A county in the South East of England, and one of the Home Counties. The county borders Greater London, East Sussex, Surrey and Essex (from which it is divided by the River Thames and Thames Estuary).
Much of south east London historically lay in Kent: the areas now covered by Inner London boroughs of Greenwich and Lewisham until 1889; and the Outer London boroughs of Bexley and Bromley until 1965.
