James Hyndman MacDonnell FRSA (1885-13 September 1964) was a solicitor and Labour Party politician.
The son of Mark Antony MacDonnell and Mary Frances nee Hyndman, he was born in Marylebone. His father was a doctor of medicine born in County Mayo, Ireland, while his mother was born in Boston, Massachusetts, USA.
He became a solicitor, with a practice in Southampton Street, The Strand from 1915–41 and in Maiden Lane, Covent Garden from 1941 until his death.[1]
He was a member of the London County Council from 1928-1955. He represented Southwark North until 1949 and following boundary changes Southwark 1949-55. He was involved in with the Survey of London for 36 years.[1] He was also a member of Battersea Borough Council.
He stood for the Labour Party as parliamentary candidate for Westminster, Abbey at the 1929 General Election. It was a safe Conservative seat and he about a quarter of the votes in a straight fight with Otho Nicholson.
He was married three times: to Beryl Gwendolyn Smith (died 1920) in 1912 and to Norah St Lawrence Linklater (died 1926) in 1920. His final marriage, in 1928, was to Lucy Eleanor Frances Preston (died 1962).
He died at his home at Cadogan Square, Chelsea, aged 79.
