Hyman Appleby Leon (1 May 1898-1982), twice Mayor of the Municipal Borough of Richmond, Surrey and second Mayor of the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames.[1]

Leon opened a woman's clothes shop in Richmond in the 1920s before becoming a member of the borough council. In 1938 he acquired the site for a new synagogue in the town, as the existing one was no longer large enough.[2] He was awarded the OBE in 1946.[3]
