Toponymy[]

In 1700, Globe Town was known as Eastfields.[1]

History[]

In the 1700s, it was known as Eastfields,[2] a patch of green with some residential houses. It wasn’t until the late 1700s that it grew into a residential area with estate developers gaining an interest in it.[3]

Eastfields was then developed by a consortium of builders and had become known as Globe Town by 1808. More houses were added in the 1820s.[4]

Globe Town by the Second World War had become very run-down and it suffered the loss of many houses and factories.[5]
