George Lidgett (19 November 1831 – 18 July 1907) was a shipowner and Liberal Party politician.
Born in Stepney, he was the son of John Lidgett and Anne Jacob née Hyett. His father was a ship master from Hull who founded a shipping and insurance company in the City of London.
Educated at the City of London School and the University of London, he graduated in 1853. Along with his brother he entered the family firm which became John Lidgett & Sons. He was chairman of the General Ship-owners' Society for 1883-84, and a member of Lloyd's Classification Committee, a director of the Star Life Office. He was a freeman of the City of London, and a member of the Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers.
A resident of Blackheath, he was nominated by the Greenwich Liberal Assocaition to contest the first London County Council election in 1889. He won a seat representing Greenwich, sitting as a Progressive Party councillor. He held the seat at the 1892 election, but was defeated in 1895. He stood as a Liberal party candidate for the parliamentary seat of Plymouth in 1891, without success.
He died in Yorkshire, aged 75, and was buried in Lastingham in that county.
Elizabeth Lidgett was his sister.
