This is a list of franchise qualifications for the various bodies governing London.

Parliamentary elections[]

Pre-1832 was the unreformed Parliament, with a very limited electoral franchise - which varied between regions.



The City of London[]

London-wide bodies[]

Membership of the Metropolitan Commission of Sewers was by appointment.

Members of the Metropolitan Board of Works were elected by the vestries.


The Inner London Education Authority was composed of of the relevant members of the Greater London Council, until the Inner London Education Authority election, 1986.


Current situation[]

All UK nationals of sufficient age and duly qualified are entitled to vote in Parliamentary and London local government elections, and, formerly, in EU elections. Other EU nationals were entitled to vote in European and London/local elections.
