Erith is a district of South East London within the London Borough of Bexley on the River Thames. Erith's town centre has undergone a series of modernisations since 1961. Erith is geographically an outlying area of London, although its town centre can be seen as having many of the characteristics of the inner city, such as many residences being flats and council blocks, with fewer houses, shops, and other commercial properties interspersed.

It has the longest pier in London, and retains a coastal environment with salt marshes as well as industrial land.

In 1947 there was a proposal to merge Erith, Bexley and Crayford into a County Borough. (Kentish Times 21 November 1947)

The records of Erith School Board are at Bexley Local Studies and Archive Centre - details here.
