An area of the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham that is the largest public housing estate in the world.
When built, the development occupied parts of the parishes of Barking, Dagenham and Ilford, with administration split between the three respective urban district councils. Barking and Ilford were established as suburbs of London and had been urban districts since 1894.
Served by what are now Becontree Station - originally Gale Street Halt - and Dagenham Heathway Station - orginally Heathway.
